I got to Fort Jackson at about 11:30 Aug 4th. I spent the following week hurring up to various places where I waited, getting my self a sloppy haircut (yes they took of more hair). My ACU's (Army Combat Uniform), and the rest of the random bullcrap that one needs to do when entering the Army. From my first full day here, until we transfered to APS I was the Platoon Guide for my platoon (sort of like a team leader)
The next Thursday we transfered to APS. They combined 4 receptions platoons into one APS platoon (55 guys). The PG for the platoon that had been here longer assumed the role of PG for our new platoon. The first part of the day at APS was hell. Running with our Duffle Bags, Laundry bags, and Personal Bags. Getting Shook down (read throwing all our stuff on the ground and getting searched for contraband), running to our new baracks with our Duffles on our backs and our laundry bags helf over our heads, then again with just our personal bags held over our heads. However thats where hell would stop. Later that day we took at assesment test, to evaluate if we can take the Pre GED right away.
Over the following week (leading up to today) my platoon has set itself apart from the rest of the APS company. We regularly out perform the other platoons in marching, PT, drill, and general dicsipline. We infact have set the current record for the amount of people who qualified to take the Pre-GED, with 37 our of 55. We and our Sargeants have been pushing us further then the other platoons.
have too log off now..
I have qualified to take the actual GED with the third highest score |

So the current word is that I'm "on track to ship out monday or tuesday". Of course thats means very little. I'm currently preparing to still be here until Aug.
So if any of you out there in LJ land know of anyplace looking to hire part time, I think I'm going to be needing a job soon. |

So...I'm not gone.
It turns out that I was supposed to ship out yesterday morning. Of course nobody thought to tell me this until yesterday after noon, and by then it was too late to get there to ship out yesterday. We tried to get me shipped out today.
It didn't work.
Three things happened today, due to the mix up.
Four if you count the 8 hours I spent sitting in a chair.
1. My MOS changed from 15N to 15J. So instead of being an Avionics technician for every helicopter the army flies, I work on all of the electronic equipment, including avionics; weapon systems, navigation, and comunication systems, of the UH-58 scout helicopter. This is simultaniously cooler and lamer. On one hand I'm working on everything with an electric current on one helicopter and thats AWESOME, but on the other hand I'm not working on all five helicopters.
2. I'm getting a $10K signing bonus. Which is paid to me when I complete AIT (job training)
3. I may not be leaving until Aug. 3rd. I'm either leaving Monday or Tuesday of next week, or in 5 months. I am not a happy Drew.
I quite litteraly had to sit in a chair from 4:45 AM until 12:30ish PM. I have been awake officially since 3:30 (realistically since 11:30 PM yesterday after only 3ish hours of sleep)

My last Rocky was a blast. I got to perform the virgin sacrifice, for which I did "Drew's your Daddy", a variation on the "Who's your Daddy". Despite it being a completely mastibitory spectical, I think I returned the audiance to Bernie at about the same energy level. I spent the rest of the show saying my goodbyes to Sinners and regulars, and generally just having a good time.
I mostly spent Sunday relaxing. Which was nice.
Today I am having lunch with a friend, then running a few errands, and then having a birthday dinner with my mother, and then it's Margarita Monday. w00t!

My party last night was a lot of fun. A lot of people showed up. Not a crazy amount like the New Years Party, but enough.
Tonight is my last Rocky, and it is also my birthday Rocky. As my birthday is Monday. I will be turning 24.
I came to the realization months ago that I will likely be older then almost all of the other recruites, and likely as old as my drill sargeants. I'm pretty sure I'm the same age as my Recruiter who's previous station/job was a drill sargeant at Fort Jackson. Which is where I'm going.
On one hand I'm happing I have two extra days to hang out with people before I head out, on the other hand I'm impatiantly awaiting my ship date. It feels like I'm back in high school waiting for summer vacation. just counting down the days. It's not that I want to leave all that much, but more that I'm just tired of waiting.

Tonight I went to go see Aliens on the big screen at Arclight Sherman Oaks. Despite it being an old print and in rather poor condition, it was so awesome seeing it.
Oy, I'm such a nerd.
Sunday was fun. Hooked up with the Riot Squad for tailgating prior to the game. Game was awesome, I yelled and screamed and cheared and sang. I'm so getting season tickets when I get back. Galaxy tied 2-2 with DC, Donavan pulling off the two Galaxy goals late in the game.
I would describe the awesomeness of my nerdiness, but it wouldn't make any sense to anybody that reads this so I will spare you all.
On monday I went slacklining with Tara, Joanna, Levon, and Tara's friend Dan from Pacific. It is both more and less dificult then I thought it would be. by the end I was able to stand on the line, for a short time. However walking, is still beyond me.

Only got about an hour and a half of sleep so far.
This is because I and a friend of mine are going to the season opener for the LA Galaxy, which starts at noon, and we want to get there for all the fun pre-game stuffs.
Me and this friend however seem to carry a curse to the home team whenever we go to a sporting event. So far without exception the home team has lost at game we've gone to see, this includes 2 Ducks games, 2 Galaxy Games, and 1 Kings game (vs. the Ducks, so in this one instance the home team losing was a good thing for me). Hopefully today the law of averages will kick in and the Galaxy will win.
Hopefully I'll get home early enough to have a nap between the game and the extreme nerdiness I have planned for this evening.

The funny thing about starting to use LJ again, is I looked at my friends list, and realized I didn't remember who a lot of the people are. and that a large chunk of them haven't updated their journals in...well a really long time.
My friends list is now significantly lighter. So if I removed you and you pissed, well, comment and I may fix it.

So I realized that since I'm to be leaving soon, it would stand to reason that I should probably write an update before I leave.
I had the better part of four months to prepare, and I still feel like there a ton of things I need to get done before I go. I'm certainly not in the physical shape I would like to be when starting boot camp. Hopefully during ASPS the PT wont be as bad, and it will get me ready for BCT (Basic Combat Training or Boot Camp, for my non military friends).
I know that not everybody can make it to my party this coming up Friday (the 27th), so I am also having a smaller shindig tomorrow. Much smaller, much quieter, and hopefully much less clean up after it's all over. So if any of you want to come over tomorrow, I expect to be awake sometime between noon and 2PM (I'm enjoying not having to be awake at any particular time, soon I'm going to have to be awake and productive at 4AM, so I'm enjoying sleep while I can still get some). So come over anytime and feel free to hang out until Rocky.
It occurs to me that since I am going to be a bajillion miles from all of my friends that I should get in the habit of updating this stupid thing more often.
So I discovered recently that all of my pants had holes in them. And not in places that make them seen cool and well worn, but in places that just mean I need new pants. So I went out and got new pants today.

| » Oh my poor kitty. |
So the appartment I'll be staying at has a strict no pets policy, but as its the cheapest, and awsomest, I'm still going to be staying there while I'm at school. Unfortunetly my cat can't stay where I'm staying now because Cher hates her. My mom wont take her in, for the obvious bitchy reason, and my Dad has Chihuahuas and we're not sure if that will work, so I may one of my awsome friends will take care of her for a little while, about a year or so, while I'm at school. I'll pay for food and litter, or if you have cats, split the cost with you.

So since a lot has happened in the last couple weeks it’s time for an update.
School: I took my entrance exam and ATB (Ability to Benefit; allows me to start school, without having to worry about getting my GED scores), and destroyed both of them. My new start date for school Sept. 18. Le w00t.
Work: I got the job at the Sears Automotive Center near my school, which pays base plus commission, which normally comes out to somewhere between $11 an $20 an hour. I’ve also turned in my two weeks notice at blockbuster.
Life: I got the apartment in Riverside, it’s a four bed four bath, of which my share of the rent (The building is third party student house, that rents by the room, not the entire apartment) is $765/month, which includes all Utilities, including Basic Phone service, Internet, and Basic Satellite TV. Not to mention community features like pool, fitness center, theater (DVD player, and projector, throwing into a 96in screen)
Car: Here is the first bit of bad news, I blew a water seal. I'm leaking coolant into the Rotor Housing, and down the Eccentric shaft into the flywheel housing. Causing me to leak coolant from my exhaust port/manifold, and from a breather whole in the Transmission assembly. *sigh* rebuild time.
I'm sending the car to Mazdratrix located in Signal Hill. For some serious upgrades. I'm upgrading my N/A engine for a turbocharged monster. Full list of upgrades to be posted after I take the car to the shop and negotiate labor and part costs…seeing as I’m going to be insalling a couple dozen parts, I’m hoping to get them to give me a deal.
